Come learn about our new @cityofservers Instagram story ANONYMOUS TIPLINE documenting the experiences of those working in Portland ME's food industry
We hope everyone is enjoying the snow & successfully navigated the parking bans across different Maine cities these past few days. 🚗❄️
Today marks the launch of an important new mini-investigative series, which takes inspiration from the seemingly now inactive @dear_portland_restaurants (if you know who manages this account please help them find this production to collaborate!). As the page writes in its bio, the account served as a place for "airing out...dirty general linens" and focused on highlight the voices of industry workers in Maine's foodie city.
In a similar fashion, each week we will be posting a question about Portland ME’s food industry to our Instagram story & gathering anonymous responses to document and consider going into interviews for this 18-minute documentary. Then, on Sundays, we will be posting replies to our Instagram story & main page.
The following blog post contains questions that our director Elora has generated so far & plans to touch on throughout interviews for this piece. However— WE NEED YOUR INPUT. While members of this team have worked in Portland’s service industry, it will be important to obtain a community perspective on these matters going into production.
Also, if you’ve been following closely you’ve noticed this is only an 18-minute long piece attempting to cover a topic that warrants much more time. There is power in collecting & documenting experiences in Portland’s food industry outside of this short film. We can only find solutions if we ALL have a place to air our grievances, find support, and explore new ideas in our collective approach to working-class rights in Portland ME.
Please help us spread the message & send this blog post to anyone you know currently working in Portland’s food industry.
📩 Please also send us questions! You can either DM us directly or email cityofserversdoc@gmail.com
In other news, our short proof of concept video will launch & be added to our Indiegogo campaign on at 10 AM on Monday, January 30th, 2023. This two minute video will bring our film synopsis to life (read here) and help our audience visualize the ideas we've shared regarding this production so far.
